About Me

I grew up in a small town in Iowa, Columbus Junction, doing stereotypically Iowan things like showing cattle and competing in FFA soil judging, worked in Division One basketball (Butler for 3 years as manager/head manager, including 2 for Brad Stevens, Stanford for 2 years as Special Assistant to the Head Coach), helped scale a boot-strapped solar and energy storage company for 2.5 years in the Midwest and now build the leadership teams at the best companies in Silicon Valley.

I have a collection of stream-of-consciousness blog posts that I’ve posted on Medium over the years. My interests include architecture, basketball, the design of cities, complex systems, economics, farming, hunting, reading, theology, and starting many side projects, only some of which get built.

My intention with this site is to clean up and preserve my old blog posts, write more frequently, and understand the world better. The blog exists to force me to write to better understand the world around me, but also for others to learn something, or chat with me if they find my thoughts interesting. I love to meet interesting and curious people, and currently live in the Bay Area.

If something I’ve written seems particularly interesting, feel free to email me, or add me on LinkedIn.
